The Extreme Gap Year with Warriors Academy

The Extreme Gap Year with Warriors Academy

The Gap Year, has been called many different names, Year Out, Year Abroad and even the classical Sabbatical. For all intents and purposes the pause as it were to disconnect from the real world and discover oneself, has evolved.

An example of this evolution is set in the Limpopo Province of South Africa is Warriors Academy. A Gap Year set-up taking the concept from basics to the extreme. Their offer is to not do anything different but doing more of it...

By using the traditional concepts of a Gap Year, Warriors Academy is helping individuals figure out their future paths by providing a broader view of the world around them.

“Students will leave Warriors with an acute personal, environmental and social awareness. They would also have gained stronger skills and competency's to enter the job market.” - Warriors Academy marketing executive Louise van den Dool.

The part that is interesting, is that this is what Gap Years started out as, a fundamental break that allows individuals to question and then answer their potential choices. However with so many changes happening within the world during the past few decades the dynamics of Gap Years has drastically differentiated. Leading to the development of streamlined, industry focused and hybrid gap years. Providing a reasoning for Warriors not to shape itself differently, yes the world may be changing but the needs of the individual are still relatively the same.

By using a traditional formula and energizing it – Warriors Academy are taking a stance that more is a better than less. Combining segments of the natural environment, adventure skills, individual growth, career readiness and even community awareness – Warriors is taking the Gap Year and bringing it back to where it belongs – to the individual.

But it doesn't stop there...

Even after the first year, Warrior keeps the door open for students who want more or are still not ready to take the next step into the real world.

Louise van den Dool continues,  “Not every student is cut out for a 9-5-office job, which is why the Warriors program has developed an outdoor pursuits training program. Students who show a passion for adventure and their natural environment will be invited to return. This time round they will expand on their passion for mountaineering, scuba diving, river guiding and more. Students will achieve an Adventure Site Guide Qualification, FETC Certificate Qualification in Adventure Based Learning and finally a National Certificate in Adventure based Learning”
