In response to: I want to know about a career in logistics and what it involves?

A: Logistics is basically managing, implementing, analysing and planning a logistical function – making sure a product gets from the area of production to the market/consumer. Study routes often use courses such as ‘Transportation Planning’ and ‘Transportation Economics’.

A great example of this can be found in the trucking or shipping of products. Behind the scenes there is someone that is planning every possible detail and ensuring that the best options are being taken. This does not just involve ensuring that a function is working correctly but also strategy development. For example creating a shipping route that would work best – focusing on being quick and cost effective.

Apart from the commercial side of things Logistics can be found in the military. There is a great need for people who can plan big operations effectively. For example the logistics of moving supplies up to the front line.
