Roaming Newton Chapter 4:

The job search was going insane and so Roaming Newton dropped London like there was no tomorrow and made it for the place where the salaries don’t have that nasty tax bite happening.

Flying into Dubai was awesome the only way you can describe it is as being in the Las Vegas of the East, business in the desert! The lights of the city are extremely motivating and any ideas of seeing desert is lost as you fly into what is a very built up enviroment with little to no sand around.  So I couldn’t find that job in London, actually I haven’t been able to find a job anywhere, hmmm I need to start focusing…

Firstly the line at the passport check was crazy and I wait for an hour and half in the queue. By the time I finally get through to luggage pick up I am exhausted, so bags in hands I went to see what all the fuss was about in the desert. After catching a taxi driven by a driver who thought he was Michael Schumacher, I got my first sights of this incredible place and suddenly felt my batteries’ recharging, such is the energy of Dubai. A Star Wars movie is the best way to describe it, skyscrapers everywhere and if the national bird was the Crane well the mechanical one that is, it’s easy to imagine because there are tons of them around. The cab driver starts giving me a full tourist’s guide of what’s what and how things work. I literally don’t understand a word of what he is saying as his accent is so strong. So I try and speak the international language of cricket to him, not a good move as he starts ripping into Sachin Tendulkar and Saurav Ganguly with some major anger, turns out he is a disgruntled Indian cricket fan who doesn’t like some of the Indian players. I couldn’t wait to get out the cab at this stage because he was seriously fuming. When I eventually reach my destination, I pay him in the local currency (Dirhams) and bid farewell to a now steaming Indian Cricket Fan.

I settle into my accommodation and I have a great view of the Colin Montgomerie Golf Course. With a view so breath taking I couldn’t resist and my urgency to look for work is immediately quashed. Oh well so much for focus, my job as a perpetual tourist backpacker continues. And thus starts my journey of another place to conquer and spend money. Such is life I guess, my Dubai adventure is just about to be initiated with what I presume is customary to do when you enter Dubai…check out the malls. Well wish me luck as I go and see what this duty free shopping is all about, hopefully my new cabbie likes a more sedate sport like fly fishing…
