Growing up with LEGO® I felt that anything imaginable was buildable. Then again I grew up in the eighties and MacGyver was the pocketknife hero of the decade! So if he could save the day with a Swiss Army knife, as a child, I thought I could create my dreams one LEGO brick at a time.

As time past, MacGyver faded away and so did my childhood. High school, university and work changed my perception of life. As my imagination matured - my first LEGO spaceship was long gone and forgotten – I did miss the days of creating my dreams.

So when I travelled from one end of Bavaria to the other to arrive at LEGOLAND® Deutschland – I found that I was about to receive a journey back in time! Though Doc Brown’s Delorean would have been a better way to go in terms of time travel ahead of a long drive from Munich to Günzburg, (come on Spielberg at least get us a real Hover Board)!

LEGOLAND is awesome – there can be no argument about this! You walk into the theme park styled venue - and as an adult you immediately feel like a giant! Though because you are in Bavaria you feel entitled to seeing a LEGO Man in traditional Bavarian Lederhosen. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case, but what I got was a world of amazing imagination.

LEGO rollercoaster’s, safaris, trains, castles and of course cities. There was even a LEGO aquarium based on the Lost City of Atlantis! As children ran around not knowing which way or what to do next, I began to understand that the time span of which I had missed out on LEGO since my childhood has seen the concept evolve. It made lifeless objects animated – it was nothing short of taking my LEGO spaceship and launching it to the moon. As everyone around me was living and loving LEGO, I was playing LEGO catch up! I needed extra lessons.

With the origins of LEGO stemming from the Viking country of Denmark its not unimaginable to understand its expansion is illustarted by this land of imagination in Bavaria. The brand has expanded globally in keeping with the business rise of The LEGO Group and of course adding to the hype is the LEGO Movie. Their creative value goes that extra distance with a smart partnership with the STAR WARS™ brand. The LEGO STAR WARS X-WING MODEL is an example that even a futurist concept can be made into reality. And for the first time at LEGOLAND I felt my regular sized self as the 43 foot X-wing weighs 45,980 pounds and is eleven foot in height!

A cosmopolitan environment, LEGOLAND is exactly the refresher course that every person needs to shake off the shackles of adulthood. If your childhood was LEGO -less than this is the place to spark a youthful imagination. After all I just found that the Delorean comes in LEGO too!
