Objectives and Goals of the SRA Gap Year –
SRA is not only a Rugby Academy – it is a world class rugby experience. We inspire people and change their lives. Our holistic approach not only focuses on rugby, but rather on using rugby as a vehicle to help develop balanced, well-rounded young individuals who reach their full potential in life. It is for players or coaches that are passionate about rugby as a career.

Mixing Academics with Rugby –
The opportunity to play in the "cornerstone" (Stellenbosch) of rugby and to be part of one of the most glorious rugby clubs in the world (Maties) is truly an amazing opportunity. This creates an advantage to get an academic qualification and practical experience simultaneously.
The benefits for international players coming to SRA -
1. Internationally recognised qualifications.
2. Our culture is largely based on the same professional culture of the Springboks (Heyneke Meyer and Louis Koen) and Saracens (Brendan Venter). Therefore, each player must consider himself as a professional player and coach - not merely as a student.
The importance of a Gap Year program at SRA for international players looking to go professional -
It is a High Performance Rugby programme built on the following six pillars:
Team values (Honesty • Discipline • Work ethic • Humility)
Conditioning
Defence
First Phase Possession (scrums, line-outs, receiving restarts)
Continuity (keeping possession / building phases)
Controlling the broken field (kicking game and counter attack)
Which are presented in the following five performance areas: Physical, Skills, Mental, Match and 7’s.
