Focus on the stock market- Learn how to play the JSE and make cash.

South Africans aren't big on buying shares - at least as individuals. In SA, the share market is dominated by institutional shareholders - financial institutions such as insurance companies and asset management companies. Most people just don't know much about investing; many think that buying shares directly is hugely expensive, or they are afraid of spending money on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE).

In his revolutionary book Re-Imagine! Business Excellence in a Disruptive Age*, Tom Peters explains the importance of the question “What is (v-e-r-y) special about you?”

Asking this question of yourself, and grappling with a brutally honest answer, is arguably the most important FirstStep in choosing a career path that will sustain both your wallet and your happiness throughout the forty to fifty years you’ll spend (hopefully) contributing to the economy.

Q: Can you upgrade your matric marks?

A: You can in South Africa rewrite your matric subjects to either increase your respective marks or upgrade your pass level. You can do this at the high school where you had written your matric or through another institution. Even some high schools offer a post matric allowing students to redo courses in order to get an improved mark/grade.

Most private colleges offer this facility or courses which are matric equivalent.  When looking for a course which is a Matric equivalent, you are looking for something which will give you an NQ (National Qualification) Level 4 qualification.  Please make sure that the college you go to is a registered FET College (recently changed to TVET)* so that the qualification you receive is valid.  No-one wants to spend another year doing something only to find that it is not worth anything – what a waste of time and money and then you have to start again!

Investing your time in knowledge is an awesome strength and tool to have. But what happens when you combine strengths, i.e., brains and brawn?
It’s cricket World Cup time and we salute three contributors that helped shape the game through the use of knowledge gained from either education or experience combined with the muscle of cricket to achieve monumental and memorable success.

The “tactician”- Imran Khan, read for an undergraduate degree in economics at Oxford University, Keble College. Khan captained Pakistan to their first and only cricket world cup tournament victory in 1992. A true athlete, Khan commanded respect as a leader from his team and as a dashing adversary from his opponents. Having reached the twilight of his career, it was his cricketing experience and education that brought about a unified victory from an extremely young Pakistani team. Using his all-round skills as a bowler and a batsman, he made sure his opposition never saw anything like this new spirited Pakistani team. He created a new era for Pakistan cricket and opened up the world to a faster, more fluent limited overs game.
