As part of its social investment drive, Sage VIP, a leading HR, payroll software and services provider in South Africa, will run a Life and Business Skills Programme for high school learners from Grade 10 to 12 during the June/July school holidays. “It is the third year we are running the programme and the aim is to equip learners from disadvantaged backgrounds with essential life and business skills. The training will aid them in their task of finding work once they matriculate,” says Ingrid Theunnissen, internal trainer and industrial psychologist at Sage VIP.
The training will impact learners from the Louis Botha Children’s Home in Pretoria, J Mahlangu High School in Mamelodi and for the first time, children from Sage VIP employees who fit the criteria will also benefit.
The Grade 10 course will focus on developing the learner's life skills and enhancing their self-development. The course includes skills development in MS Word and Excel, telephone etiquette, as well as gaining insight into their personality styles. The Grade 11 course focuses on improving their organisational skills and includes an introduction to the payroll environment, gaining insight into different careers, learning to do a presentation, time management skills and mastering your memory, as well as Excel training.
“This year we will also include a course for Grade 12’s, a first for the programme. It will focus on training in VIP payroll systems, combined with a course in English business writing. These learners will also receive training on how to compile an effective CV and conduct a job interview. It also presents the learners with advanced Excel and MS Word skills," says Theunissen.
Another added benefit of this year’s programme is the offering of free transport for the learners from the J Mahlangu High School in Mamelodi. “In this way, Sage VIP also contributes to empowering local Taxi drivers,” says Theunissen.
“It is our belief that this programme will continue to uplift and develop underprivileged learners in our community and help them on their way to a brighter future," concludes Theunissen.
