Adding fashion to Football Fridays, Brand South Africa asks South Africans to vote for their favourite South African football inspired outfit.

03 May 2010, Johannesburg – Brand South Africa invites South Africans to vote online for the Football Friday Fashion Funk competition design, that best captures our country’s definitive football spirit. Voting closes on 4th May 2010.
“Through this ‘Fly the Flag’ campaign competition, we have been looking for young, creative South Africans to express how they feel about the 2010 Fifa World Cup™, using fashion design as a platform,” said Sophie Masipa, Brand South Africa’s Marketing Manager: Brand Building. “We are searching for an outfit that coins a ‘look’ for our football spirit, while defining our “South Africaness.”
Following voting from the public and a panel of judges, the top fifteen designers will participate in a glamorous fashion show final on 28th May 2010, to be held at Joburg’s Fashion Kapitol, home of the world’s first outdoor catwalk,” she said. The top design student will win prizes to the value of R20 000 worth of Edgars fashion vouchers, plus R20 000 will be awarded to a worthy charity.

The merging of football and fashion through this design competition aims to engage even more South Africans in the 2010 Fifa World Cup™, while revealing our nation’s creativity and expanding the appeal of football. We selected fashion, style and design thought leaders as our judges. Just name a few they are:
a. Nonhle Thema -Nonhle hosts the Flagship Show V-Entertainment on VUZU.  She is one of the presenters for the Supersport Fifa show WOZA 2010 and will be filming all the action on location for the duration of the games.
b. Craig Jacobs – The mastermind behind on of South Africa’s leading clothing labels, Fundudzi.
c. Sandy Rogers – A trend analyst from Edgars.
“Your vote can make the difference for fifteen design students’ futures and of course, help us fly our flag fashionably higher,” concluded Masipa.
