I work for the National Australia Bank – in the Credit Card Department.
My role is to design strategies to maximize customer profitability.
I got into this role because I enjoy the business aspect of retail banking (the concept of lending money to make money). Credit Cards have a lot more going on and its very interesting to see how people use them. There is a lot to making money in the credit card business which keeps it very challenging.
What’s a typical working day for you:
In at 8h30, typically meetings until 12. Then analyzing customer data and recommending solutions to problems. Helping people with customer strategies and pricing decisions. Leave by 6. (FirstStep.me says, that’s a good solid days work).
All jobs have challenges, what would you say are some of yours:
Key challenge is stakeholder management. You deal with a lot of people all the time. It’s important to be able to relate, appreciate and keep them onsides so you can achieve what you need.
Where do you see yourself in five years time:
Still in retail banking! (FirstStep.me says: Sweeeeet!)
Do you believe in studying as a key to success in all careers:
I do believe in the process of studying. i.e. sticking through a process to the end and learning from it. It’s really important to complete tasks, projects and goals. This I feel reflects really well on yourself and on anyone wanting to employ you.
Do you have any career role models that helped motivate your success:
I always enjoy seeing my mates succeed in whatever they do, this totally inspires me.
Highlights of your career so far:
Enjoying my job – good team – good boss…all good.
Funniest moment of your career so far:
Trying to walk into a meeting room full of people, pushing and pulling the door… then someone from inside the meeting room slides the door open… (FirstStep.me says: DOH!)
Okay serious questions over:
If you weren’t a human you would be a sloth. (FirstStep.me takes a quick note and then counts fingers…nope we like being human).
