Aamruth Shankarappa: I test helicopters as a career

"Studying in Germany was a complete different experience for me! I received a lot of opportunities to work as a student with many multinational organizations like AUDI and BMW. This provided a good overview into both International and European business markets. After my Masters, an offer from an Avionic organization presented itself in testing helicopters which I accepted."- Amruth Shankarappa

Where on the planet are you currently located? The land of beer-Munich, Germany.

You were born in India and done a fair bit of travel, how did you end up in Germany of all places? I was crazy about cars (like BMW) while I was in India and New Zealand, so wanted to learn the technical concept about automobile and space. So I landed in Germany and I am still crazy about cars!

Your job (in a nutshell) is to test Helicopters, awesome stuff, you have to tell us more? The Aerospace industry was not a new topic for me, as I had worked during my Bachelor studies in India with Hindustan Aeronautic Limited testing tools for Jaguar aircraft. My Bachelors in Communication and Electronics enabled me to select between Aerospace or Automotive (as both need a navigation system).

I initially worked in India, the USA and the UK mainly in the management and the testing sectors of companies like Hewlett Packard and Vanguard, before I decided to further my studies in Germany. I landed up reading for a Masters degree at FH Rosenheim in Electrical and Information Technology which rocked. Also being in a country of a totally different language was a challenge for me, but I felt at home during by studies as in the beginning a lot of people here helped me with adjusting to the new language and settling down into the country.

(FirstStep.me say's awesome!)

Any exciting experiences, surely there must be plenty? Testing helicopters as a whole is a good experience, one of my better experiences was when one of the devices we tested was launched successfully.

What are your future projects and where do you see yourself in ten years time? 10 years is a long time, I personally enjoy everyday, there are lot of ideas for my personal projects which I would like to implement and start my own business.

If you weren’t doing what you currently do what would you be doing? I would be a Filmmaker, probably in the directing or cinematography sector.

Do you kick start your day with coffee? Neither coffee or tea, I prefer some fruit juice. (FirstStep.me makes notes of a healthy lifestyle...)

If you could name your own planet what would you call it? My own planet with my own rules! Now that is interesting. I would like to call it Amor, as most of my friends call me by that name.

What words of advice do you have for the youth of the planet? Don’t be afraid to take risks or make mistakes. Also don't forget to enjoy your life, after all someone once famously said "Life is a party”…
